Ted S. Orkin, a native Jacksonian, has been involved in the real estate business in the Jackson Mississippi metro area since 1972. First licensed as a salesman, he obtained his brokers license in 1974 and worked in commercial sales and leasing for 19 years. He informally managed various properties while in the commercial arena then became more interested and focused on property management. He worked for two local and one national company managing office, retail and residential properties until March 1997 when Orkin Property Management, LLC was organized. Starting with one community association and one shopping center as clients, Ted and his staff now serve twenty three community associations and one shopping center.

The primary focus for Orkin Property Management, LLC is community association management. To enhance his skills and services, Ted is a member of Community Associations Institute (CAI), a national, nonprofit association created in 1973 to provide education and resources to America’s 323,600 (2012 est.) residential condominiums, cooperatives, and homeowner associations, and related professionals and service providers. He has completed the CAI program of study to earn national designations in the field of community association management and currently holds the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation from the Community Association Managers International Certification Board (CAMICB) (formerly National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers NBC-CAM), the Association Management Specialist (AMS) and Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designations from Community Associations Institute.

Ted enlisted in the Mississippi Air National Guard in August 1969 with the 186th Tactical Reconnaissance Group at Key Field, Meridian, MS, as an aircraft mechanic. In 1974 he transferred to the 172nd Tactical Airlift Group in Jackson, MS as a Crew Chief on C-130E&H model aircraft. In August 1982 Ted was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science in Knoxville, TN. As an Aircraft Maintenance Officer he has commanded at Flight and Squadron levels in the Maintenance Group of the 172nd Airlift Wing at Thompson Field, MS. A Colonel, he served as the Director of Support at Joint Force Headquarters, Mississippi Air National Guard prior to his return to the 172nd Airlift Wing also in the Director of Support position. Ted retired from the guard in August 2008 with 39 years service.

Ted and his wife, Donna, are graduates of the University of Alabama and the parents of three sons; Stan, a Mississippi State graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, lives in Decatur, GA and is a Principal at Deloitte Consulting; Kevin, who graduated with an MIS degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, lives in Atlanta, GA and works for the federal government; Jeffrey, a Mississippi State graduate with degrees in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Contracting, is a LEED AP and recently sold his interest in a Landscape Design/Build firm, Landscape Solutions of Nashville, in Nashville, TN to focus on and further develop Greener Roots Farm, a hydroponic “farm” growing leafy greens and herbs under artificial light catering to the Farm to Table restaurants and individuals in the Nashville area.
